Making Endora the wild Forest Myxie

This curious creature is a wild little Forest Myxie. She spends her days hiding in the trees and playing small pranks on unsuspecting travelers that might pass her way. Try to catch her if you can but her free spirit can never be tamed. 
I held a fun contest last week to find a name for this sweet little Myxie. I got such a great response and she received a fun new name Endora.

So now I bet you are wondering how she was made? You know you are. :D
Using polymer clay, I started with her head. The face is usually the most difficult part because you want to get it just right so the personality of your creation shows through. Eyes are first and then the nose and mouth.

 Next I sculpt her torso, upper arms and legs. Her hands and feet are sculpted separate and added at the mid way point during baking. Then her head is attached and her neck is added and baked.

After she is completely sculpted, details are painted on her face, body, hands and feet. 

For her wings I used skeleton leaves that I glued together and cut into the desired shape. The wings were attached to craft wire and then glitter and feathers were added. 

Now she is ready for some clothes and fun hair. For her outfit I used small strips of fabric to fashion a small shirt and skirt. Some reddish yarn/doll hair, combed out, makes for a lovely wild look. 

Endora is all finished and ready to frolic in the trees. :)

Dragon Con is that you?!

Hello everyone! So as some of you may know I am getting ready for Dragon Con currently, a Fantasy/Sci-Fi convention in Atlanta at the beginning of September...it is right around the corner EEP! 

For the past 8 years I have been part of the DCon Art Show, where I have a Gallery/Auction table and a vending table. I will finish up the gallery pieces this week hopefully, here are just a few of the newest pieces that will be available in my Galley.

After the gallery pieces are complete, I will work on the pieces for my vending table. On my table I sell prints, pendants and Steampunk animal pals which you can see on my Etsy store.

My polymer clay sculptures are all handmade one of a kind and I do not use any molds so in-order to make sure I have plenty of inventory for the Art show I have to get started several weeks before. My little Steampunk critters are a fan favorite so I better get back to work. :)

Check out this Crocodile Smile

Spent a few days in Florida last month and it got me in the mood to make an Alligator Steampunk Myxie Pal.

I usually start with sculpting the head on my animal pals and just form a rough shape of the animal's body.

 Then you can start to add the details and smooth out the torso shape.

Then comes the limbs, I sculpt each individually and attach it using craft wire frames. 

Once the body is finished, details such as scales and teeth can be added to the piece. 

Gears, Craft wire and metal jewelry pieces are added to give the animal a Steampunky feel. Then the piece is baked and the remaining details are painted on. And your Steampunk Alligator is done. :)

My trip to FAIRYLAND!

Went to an awesomely magical place this weekend. In Calhoun, North GA, there is a little place called Folk Art Gardens and I'm pretty sure it is where all the fairies from Ferngully go to vacation. This place made me want to eat mushrooms so I could be small and live in each sweet little building.
Okay so here is some back story on it because for some reason you can't really find much about this wonderful mini Rivendell online. I just happened to stumble across it while reading a magazine that is exclusive to Hiram GA, go figure, it was fate I should find it.  Anyway, I digress, so this guy just decided to build his kids this adorable little village out of concrete and pebbles, and wouldn't you know it, he couldn't stop. So he just kept right on building for YEARS, and now it has become the Magical pint-sized Kingdom it has. Not a far drive from Rome, GA, it was well worth the hour-thirty it took to get there from my house. I did NOT want to leave, but I was scaring the kiddies every time I told them to get off my lawn and my husband had to remind me, I didn't live there, sigh.
But to make this trip even more delightful, a few of my Steampunk Dragon Pals came along, and those sweet little darlings were just the right size to fit in the tiny structures. Now they want to move in LOL :)

Little Hobbit Cottage was perfect for the Dragon Pals.

I completely recommend everyone go check out this little place. Please be courteous though, alot of work has been put into this wonderful little scene, be mindful not to break or climb on these structures. Also be sure to leave a donation so this place can keep bringing me...errr ...I mean people, much joy :)
