And then a Cutethulhu was Born...

Hello Art Fans!
Today I am going to be walking you through how I make one of my Cutethulhus. These little baby Cthulhus are a fan favorite and I have a difficult time keeping these tiny Eldergods in stock. But I do enjoy working on these little maddening dears so it is never long before I have another batch sculpted.
Anyway, let's show you all how these sweet dream thieves get created.
I usually make them all in varying shades of green polymer clay. I start with a fat clay rod.
Shaping a ball at the end of the rod gets the head started.
Red glass beads are inserted into the head for eyes.

Then I sculpt eye lids around each bead. Making sure to smooth out each piece of clay that is added to the main rod body.

Gotta give our guys some hips that don't lie. :P
Smooth those hips into the body.

Now lets make some arms and feet for our little Eldergod. I start with little tear drop shapes and cut three toes into the tops of the drops. Then each toe is smoothed out and given a tiny claw on the end.
Little body parts; bones, skulls and hearts, are made a head of time and then added to the awaiting arms of the mini Thulhus.

And no Cthulhu, cute or not, is complete without their tentacles. So we roll out some thin clay rods, attach them to the tiny nose and twist them about.

The next step is tedious and time consuming but our sculpture just wouldn't be complete without it. Circular tools are used to add small scales to the polymer clay, one at a time.

Clay spines/hairs are rolled out and placed down the back of our creations.

Time for the wings. After sculpting some teeny bat like wings, they are attached to complete our Cutethulhu's look.

Once the sculpture is baked, small details are painted on and our Cutethulhu is Born.
This little Eldergod is ready to make you go mad with cuteness...Sweet Dreams! :)

Cutethulhus just wanna enslave your mind.
Hope you enjoyed this step by step blog. I only have a few of these unique pieces in stock so make sure to check out my Etsy store for my available pieces.

Zombies, Zombies Everywhere and not a Brain to Eat

So I have been working on this project for the better half of 9 months but I wasn’t able to tell you lovely people about it because it was a Christmas present for my husband and he reads my blogs…go figure.
A few years ago he had an idea for a Zombie comic book and he just so happened to know an artist :D so I volunteered to illustrate it for him. Well at that time we had so much going on…i.e. we were planning a wedding…no big thing right? LOL So needless to say the comic book project got pushed to the bottom of the priority list. Well assuming that my hubby had pretty much forgotten about it or just decided it wouldn’t ever get done rather, I thought it would be nice to try and finish it for him, at least the 1st issue. Sneakily I sketched away at the panels the whole time trying to keep it a secret…which I am normally SOOOO bad at and after 9 LONG months I completed his book. Yeah I know that is a long time for a 20 page comic book and if I had an agent he would’ve been all over my case about taking too long but my excuses are as follows…1, I’m not very good at drawing the male form, gross stuff like, oh I don’t know ZOMBIES or mechanical things such as guns and this book was just slap full of that stuff. And 2, I was having to only work on it when my husband was not around, and since we reside in the same house…it was a chore. Anyhoo I was able to complete the book and have it printed in time to present it to him on Christmas morn…Yes, he loved it :)
But now that the gift has been given I've posted a few sneak peek photos for you all…Just a few of the sketches, the cover and some panels. What do you think?

Don’t Judge this Book by its Cover

So on top of being so very excited that my talented husband has just posted his first book for the Kindle, I am also psyched about having the cover I did for him posted. Yep, my very first book Cover. I was so worried about working on it when he asked me to do it for him, I’m more of a Character kinda girl, I like to drew people mostly. But even though it did not turn out exactly how I had envisioned it…and it sorta came out looking more like a bear paw instead of a wolf's…I’m pretty happy with how it came out. I think it complements the feel of the book fairly well. You Kindle owners that read his Book will have to let me know if you agree.

If you are interested in reading my husband’s Book…and you should be because it’s awesome…here’s the link to Amazon.

I'm so Excited I'm Extracited! :D

SOOOOO EXCITED!!! My amazingly talented husband Seth, has just posted his 1st book! He has been writing short horror stories since he was a teenager and finally made the leap to novel. The book is a Werewolf story, but if you are looking for the love-sick-four-legged-fuzzy-tweens of the Twilight books, just keep on moving. There are no cuddly puppies in this story. Just Blood, Action and a pinch of the old myths and legends behind werewolf mythology.
Perhaps I’m a bit bias but I couldn’t put it down, it is a great read with likable characters and equally as likable villains…or unlikable rather :)
You can find his new book “Friedkin’s Curse” on Amazon.com

Check it out and Please leave a comment and let him know what you thought of it.

Thanks for reading everyone and Merry Christmas!

Making a Book

My fiancé is big into horror. He loves watching it, reading it, writing about it. He even tries to encourage me to try out a few horroresque type drawings…Too Bad Hunny, I don’t do scary…so I thought. Since he is a very talented writer, he has been considering having a few of his short stories published. Unfortunately circumstance has made us have to postpone it for a little while, to cheer him up I decided he didn’t have to wait to have his stories in a book. I started designing a way to make him a book that would compliment his stories. Something that would match his dark writing style.
When referring to creepy books, one comes to mind, the Necronomicon, ya know the Book from Evil Dead. No I wasn’t going to make him a book that summoned evil spirits but I was looking for the cover to be creepy like that.
The task began by printing about 12 of his stories off. I changed the font to “Parchment” an old Archaic looking font. After adding small sketches to a few of the pages I then printed them off front and back. I then started the tedious task of staining the pages. I wanted to give them an old, weathered look like ancient books have. Each page, there was about 60 of them, was carefully brushed with a wet tea bag. Interesting tip I learned while staining, regular tea gives you a yellow stain but flavored tea gives you a grayish stain. Yes I probably could’ve just gone to a printing store and printed it on yellow paper but I also wanted that weathered look you get from the wet pages after they dry. Stapled all the stories together along with a cover page and index, now it was ready for the cover.

Don’t want this Blog to be too long so I’ll tell you all about what I did next in my next blog. Stay Tuned :)

Unicorns and Happiness are my Forte

I finished a new picture, I’m really excited about this one because it is different from my other art. I usually draw either females or cute things. Unicorns and Happiness are my forte but with this one I branched off a bit and got in touch with my horror side. I call it “Full Moon” it is of a Werewolf…yeah you see how the name tires in. :P
It really didn’t take me as long as I had originally thought, from start to finish was only about 5 or 6 hours. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. All though I will admit I cheated a little. I have discovered more of the awesomeness that is PhotoShop. With this picture I played around with some of the features for certain things such as his glowing eyes and the bright moon behind him. Glowy eyes Oooooo Creepy.
Have a look see won’t you.

I still have a few more pictures I will be coloring in PhotoShop before I start on more Myxies YAY Everyone’s Favorite :) And I will try to post each of them as I finish so be sure to keep checking my blog for updates.

Thanks for looking.
